Fri 29th Jan: Devil Disco Club - Findo Gask LIVE, Nick Yuill, Kris Wasabi, Hobbes & D'Viking

DDC_Jan-LOWRES-front.jpg

Following a sizzling live performance by Edinburgh electro-funkers Digital Jones, who warmed up December's Devil Disco Clubbers with their brand new seven-piece line-up, Glasgow electro-postrels on-the-make Findo Gask provide the live sauce for the new year pudding at Trouble's Devil Disco Club on Friday 29th January 2010. Findo Gask have been taking no prisoners over the last eighteen months, and, following the cancellation of their Christmas show at Sneaky Pete's, this date's now guaranteed to be a big one for them, while 2010 looks set to be the year they finally cross over properly.

The rearguard action is provided by the DDC's resident DJs: Hobbes & Erik d'Viking (Trouble DJs), Kris Wasabi (Wasbi Disco) & Nick Yuill (Solescience, Shoot The Pump). They will be covering all bases from soul and rap, myriad strains of vintage disco from New York, classic Eighties boogie, cosmic, italo and other rarities, not to mention some poppin' electro-funk and proto-house gems. It'll be an extra special night for Kris Wasabi (recently lauded in The List Magazine's 2009 Top 100 Hot List), who makes this his last DDC for a while as heads off on an extended Central/South American jaunt, to expand his collection of Mexican wrestling masks and sample the sound of the favelas first hand!

See below for much more info on all the acts plus links to sample (and download!) the sounds of Findo Gask and the Devil Disco Club DJs for yourself.

PLAYING LIVE: FINDO GASK

Findo Gask are a Glaswegian synths/samples/guitar/bass/drums-style quartet, who do that new wave/electro-pop thing, except with all the amps ratcheted up to eleven and a distinctly Glaswegian techno edge. Singer Gerard Black's alto adds something of a choral feel, the sweet Barbershop-style harmonies ensuring that, if anything, the group sounds a bit like Eighties electro-postrels Erasure. But there the similarity ends. It's a bigger outfit than Erasure, so there's quite a lot more going on, not least a raft of those rather fashionable Nintendo-style, 8-bit, computer-game sounds, and they also exhibit a geekier chic than the gay pop icons, that's at once a little bit indie, a little bit electro and a little bit, err, pop. So, as well as having an highly unusual name, Findo Gask have an highly unusual musical style, Black's vox forming the perfect counterpoint to the group's heavier electronic workouts. Oh, they've also supported James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) and just recently toured with fellow new wave pop heroes on-the-make Everything Everything. And their fans are currently multiplying like microbes. Expect great things.

"[Va Va Va is] one of the year's strangest and most sublime singles." - The Sunday Times

"Check out the extraordinary gossamer falsetto of Glaswegian Gerard Black." - Observer Music Monthly

"Perfect celestial pop." - Guardian

"Music both sublime and bumping." - Sunday Herald

"Absolutely brilliant... that is staggeringly good!" - Radcliffe & Maconie (Radio 2)
