Well they say never judge a book by its cover, or an album I guess. If this is to be the case then Jordan Fields should be one very relieved man, everything about the artwork on his latest offering ‘Jordan Fields presents 2084’ screams Ibiza ’98 and resembles those super club compilations you find on the shelves of Woolworth’s just next to the pick n mix.
Luckliy, the only further parallel to be drawn between those aforementioned super clubs and Jordan Fields is the dominant four to the floor vibe that is to be found on ‘2084’, drifting between techy deep into occasional noodly jazz inflected moments all served up with a notable Chicago sensibility, its obvious from the off that this is a man who’s got an awareness and respect for the music that came before that known as house.
Having said this other highlights include ’why must I ask you why’, a looped up velvet smooth down tempo moment as well as Fields broken beat foray ‘Nu York Afterdark’, lounge music with a bite to it. If you can get past the cover, this is album that takes in styles from across the board and delivers commendable results.
