Andy 'Aim' Turner has left Grand Central but lost none of his style. His third long-player following 2002’s acclaimed Hinterland and 1999’s breakthrough debut, Cold Water Music, Flight 602 is informed by the same love of tight hip hop beats, lush, John Barry-style atmospheres, spine-tingling melodies and the kind of jazz-infused dance floor dynamics also recently in evidence in the work of Brighton’s Will ‘Quantic’ Holland. It could well see Turner hailed as the British Moby, and deservedly so. Aim was ploughing a soulful beats furrow well before Quantic popped up on the radar, and, where Holland's new LP ticks the box marked 'for the clubs' with a mighty flourish, Flight 602 does that but delivers something deeper, too. Good work, Mr Turner. We look forward to seeing you do it live for us in October.
