Various Artists, Shapes 07 (Tru Thoughts)

TruThoughts_shapes07.jpg

Brighton’s Tru Thoughts and hip hop offshoot Zebra Traffic bring us another treat with their latest ‘Shapes’ offering.  Rob Luis selects, succinctly summarises and shimmies tracks into order, making this CD a great listening experience.  It features some material from the past year, some newies, tried and tested Trouble dance floor favourites and some home listening gems that we don’t play out much.  There isn’t a bad track here and the selection will bring back memories of Trouble nights past.  The role call includes Quantic, Alice Russell, Dirty Diggers and the Quantic Soul Orchestra.  A heap of other great music from artists such as the award winning Nostalgia 77 features alongside new moves from Rup (a Mike Skinner-esque MC) and Brazilian mentalists Me And You.

I’d pay full price for this CD, but by way of introducing you to their brilliant catalogue of music Tru Thoughts thought you’d be more tempted if they sold it in Fopp for three quid.  So they have.
