Radio Slave is one guise of the very talented Brighton-based, Berlin-inspired Matt Edwards. Other guises include Rekid, Matthew E and Quiet Village, the latter productions constantly finding their way into our warm up sets and more relaxed sets in bars. The Misch Masch mindset: a compiler puts together a mix on CD1 and provides CD2 as a complimentary showcase of their own remixes packaged as individual tracks. No stranger to the sensation of the remix, since Radio Slave blended Kylie Minogue’s Can’t Get You Out of My Head with New Order’s Blue Monday his discography of remixes has grown and eclipsed many more established artists. In the fourth instalment in the Misch Masch series he provides the next link in a strong chain founded by current darlings Tiefschwarz, the ever eclectic Freeform Five then DJ Hell. Radio Slave takes the mix in a sinister direction with droning and druggy tunes by artists including Trentemøller, Mocky, Roman Flügel and Booka Shade. Despite these exotic names, ultimately the high point of the album comes at the end of the mix, all the way from Glasgow in the shape of Vince Watson’s Renaissance. This double CD is an insight to the current sound of Radio Slave but doesn’t make for massively exciting home listening. Picture yourself clubbing in a far-flung corner of Europe at daybreak and the music starts to take shape.
