What a discovery! No one has made a great deal of noise about this album but it deserves its share of excitement as it is the dog's horse chestnuts. Beautiful, accessible, Latin influenced soul-jazz vocal tracks sit next to drunken head swaying instrumentals. Many of the tracks stick with a nice square 4/4 rhythm that makes it easy for us house heads and helps keep the majority of this album very dancefloor friendly. However, the laid back feel makes it equally suitable as an album for lounging to.
It seems that at Schema towers the work of Sahib Shihab has been a major influence of late. During 2004 Gilles Peterson also earmarked Gerardo Frisina's African Seeds, a unique track that blended a live percussion recording by Sabu Martinez with a sample from Shihab's Seed. On this album the beautiful remake of Please Don't Leave once again makes Shihab a contributor who never set foot in Fedreghini's studio. Along with four others included here, the later has done the rounds, being released as a single and features on many compilations including Ubiquity's Rewind!3. This doesn't make the rest of this album inferior; if anything those not previously released have the edge. The massive amount of collaborations [hence the title of the album, Several People] means that every number brings something new to the table.
File next to Nicola Conte and Fertile Ground, towards the front of the pile.
