Formerly known as the Glimmer Twins and hailing from the same town as 2ManyDJs, this Belgian pair is responsible for those ace Eskimo, Culture Club and Serie Noire compilations. These have all been drawn from the Glimmers’ consummate experience at their club nights in Ghent and this excellent mix demonstrates an equally exacting standard. Drawing together disparate strands of great dance and pop music past, present and future, it includes such moments of genius as Bis’s electro cover of A Certain Ratio’s Shack Up, Peaches’ early punk-funk hit, Lovertits, lost house and disco nuggets from Marshall Jefferson, Kerri Chandler and Hamilton Bohannon, the sleazy rock of Lotterboys’ Heroine, a rough, dubby instrumental from the glorious Two Lone Swordsmen and a rare slice of untamed rock ‘n’ roll from soft-rock heroes Chicago. It does tend to lurch slightly from one track to the next, but in this age of computer-aided, seamless snooze, this is most definitely a large part of its rugged charm.
